FeralCare founders have more than a decade of experience in aiding feral cat colonies. Our non-profit, all-volunteer organization formed in response to the dramatic rise in the stray and feral cat population throughout Connecticut. This population explosion has resulted in the malnutrition and death of countless animals, as well as a substantial increase in the number of cats and kittens requiring care and adoption. Our Board of Directors is comprised of professionals representing the fields of Urban Revitalization, Animal Rescue, Veterinary Medicine, Community Advocacy, and Communications, who are in turn supported by a strong core of volunteers.

|Shepard Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center |
During the summer of 2004, Janis Clifton became aware of the availability of a property suitable for development as a therapeutic riding center and shared her vision with three friends: Jacqui Brooks, David Desmarais and Anne Perreault. Together, the four of them envisioned Shepard Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center (SMTRC), a therapeutic riding facility to serve the community of Bristol and the surrounding towns, for the benefit of challenged individuals, especially children, fulfilling a lifelong dream of the property's late owner, Katharine Shepard. These four individuals, joined by Sherry Lockhart, became the founding directors of SMTRC and developed a business plan to start this venture, presented the plan to the custodians of the property under Miss Shepard's will, and in December of 2004 obtained permission to use it as the home of SMTRC

AnimaLovers was founded in 1995 by a small group of friends who wanted to provide needy cats and dogs in the Capital District of New York with a better way to find their way to safety and new lives. Our goals at that time became our Mission Statement:
- To provide housing, veterinary care, and adoption for unwanted, abandoned, injured, or stray dogs and cats;
- To educate adopters, as well as the general public, about the health and training needs of our companion animals;
- To promote spaying and neutering as an efficient and humane means of animal population control; and
- To advocate for legislation that will prevent cruelty to animals.
AnimaLovers is not a public shelter and receives no government monies. We are an all-volunteer, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, which relies on contributions, membership and adoption fees, some small grants, and fund raising events to provide care for the animals who come to us.
