Washington DC is home to many charities that accept vehicle donations.

Most national charities have local chapters in Washington DC. Many local charities also operate in the District and will accept vehicle donations directly or through Vehicle Donation Services. If you have a specific Washington DC charity to which you wish to give, contact them and ask for more information.

It is easy to donate your car, truck, boat or RV in the District of Columbia. Car donation pick up services are available throughout DC, and vehicles donated in Washington to a non-profit classified with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization are deductible from your federal income taxes. In most cases, the District of Columbia requires that the donor have the vehicle title. If you do not have title papers, you can apply for a duplicate title through the Department of Motor Vehicles. To release liability of your donated vehicle in Washington DC, the DMV requires that you surrender the license plates of your donated vehicle. Do not cancel insurance on the donated vehicle until you have returned your plates to the DMV, and be sure to keep your receipt. The Washington Motor Vehicle Department can provide additional information about transferring title and releasing liability when donating a car in the state of Washington.

Donate a Car for Charity provides vehicle pick-ups throughout the state of Washington, including Atlanta, Augusta, Macon, Statesboro, Albany, La Fayette, Americus, La Grange, Valdosta, Savannah, Athens, Columbus, Waycross, Monroe and Statesboro. In most cases, you must provide a clear title when you donate a vehicle in Washington. Please consult the Washington Motor Vehicle Department web site to determine procedures if you do not have a title. The Washington Motor Vehicle Department will also be able to provide you with more information on how and when to release the liability of your donated vehicle.

There are many local charities in Texas that will benefit from a car or vehicle donation.

In addition to registered charities nationwide, you can donate a car to aide charities in Texas. The Local Independence Charities of Texas (www.lic.org) is an IRS-recognized federation of local nonprofit charitable organizations that are helping children, the poor, the ill and disabled, the elderly and many others in need. You can search their site for information on charities in Texas.
